Abstract

The present study intends to analyze the history of former residents of Lagoa do Mato impacted by the expropriation of the territory. The research has a qualitative approach, in this case the Oral History, based on testimonies collected through semi-structured interviews, and is also documentary and bibliographic in nature. As a result of the research, it is concluded that the Zabumbão dam transformed the daily life of approximately eight rural communities and more than 52 (fifty-two) families. The dispossession of the families was driven by impositions, violations and, consequently, a material and symbolic change in the memory and history of those people. We found that the said community was deprived of the right to live in its territory and, when it insisted, it suffered threats and coercion; there were negative consequences in compensation and economic.
