Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to think about friendship and writing as political categories to understand their relation and complexity during the Victorian period. I seek to highlight the occupation of public space through printed women's publications, closely connected to friendship networks. For this, I begin with a bibliographic review, to then propose new considerations about the use of writing and friendship relations at the time. I formulate the questions: how does writing generate friendships and support networks that allow women to act politically? How does friendship and support networks impact their publications? I consider the chances that occurred in all sectors of British society during the 19th century, in particular regarding literature, sexuality and social relations. I believe that women appropriated themselves of the public space through writing and created networks as mechanisms for political action.
