Abstract

The first generation of rock music is erroneously considered as the prehistory of Brazilian rock. Often restricted to certain characters or even forgotten, this group remains in a marginal position in our music studies. In this article, I propose to rethink its position inside our musical history. For this, we will analyze how rock comes to Brazil and the media's difficulties in dealing not only with this genre, but with a whole new idea of youth that was gaining strength in the period. We will also analyze its various forms of dissemination, in the various media of the period. In addition, we will discuss the importance of performance for the development of this style, thinking about music beyond the song.
