The article discusses the influence of Carl Schmitt's work on Chantal Mouffe's proposal of agonistic democracy. It is verified that Mouffe starts from certain premises established by the German author, however, the Belgian theoretician does not agree at all with its conclusions: in seeking a new meaning for some of its concepts, it seeks to contribute to the construction of a political philosophy that radicalize liberal democracy.
